“GOD WILL PUNISH THEM”- Grandma Laments After Police In Oyo Stole Her House Rent Of N152k From Her Grandson

A woman in Oyo State has lamented the uncivilized behavior displayed by some police officers who assaulted her grandson, stealing his phone and a significant amount of money from him.

Mrs. Taiwo Ogunade.

The woman, Mrs. Taiwo Ogunade, lamented that the money which was snatched from her grandson by the police operatives was meant to pay her house rent for the month.

According to her grandson, identified simply as 20- year- old Jesugbemi, he had been on his way to a bank to deposit the money in his landlord’ s bank account. He had been on a motorcycle when he was suddenly stopped on the road by the policemen.

The men, who were said to have been led by one Mr. Badru Samson, demanded that he come down from the motorbike. He was slapped by the policemen, who he said called him a fraudster.

According to Jesugbemi, he observed about four of them, who had blocked the path of his motorbike with their vehicle, which had no license plates. They demanded his phone, which he gave to them.

They checked it but found nothing to incriminate him with. They then tried to search him, but he stopped them and brought his pockets out. That was how they discovered the N150, 000 on him.

The police officers reportedly drove Jesugbemi from Apata, where he was stopped, to Iwo, where they collected the money from him and dropped him off.

Despite explaining to them that the money was meant for his grandmother’ s house rent, they called him a liar, and one of them gave him a kick in the stomach. After asking him to format his phone, they also collected it from him.

He had to beg them to let him have his SIM card. The police officers also collected an extra N2, 000 from him, leaving him to trek back from Iwo to Dugbe, where he resides.

A sad reminder of the scourge of police brutality, which many of Nigeria’ s youth still suffer from despite the #EndSARS protests, and the dissolution of SARS.
