The meeting is coming after the Federal Government through the AGF threatened to invoke a state of emergency as part of the measures to address the security situation and safeguard the electoral processes in Anambra State
Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Justice who seconds as the Attorney- General of the Federal had on Wednesday, warned that the FG may have to impose State of Emergency in Anambra State in order to ensure peaceful conduct of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in which will be held in the state.
The governor whi dismissed the contemplation of declaring a state of emergency in Anambra state on Thursday.
He said: ” Well, that’ s a very unfortunate comment by the Attorney- General, Malami– very, very unfortunate.
” I also reported that to the President and this is not in the books of the president because he knows that Anambra has been the safest state in Nigeria for seven years plus.
” These invaders from outside Anambra state, from the neighbouring communities, we will deal with them. We’ re already working, there’ s nothing to worry about.
” Even to contemplate a state of emergency in the state is unfortunate, look at what is happening in the northern part of the country, where they kill dozens every day. Because less than 15 people were killed in Anambra State in two weeks, is that a concrete reason for someone to call for a state of emergency?
” That’ s a very unfortunate comment by Abubakar Malami. I will give him a call to express reservation on those kinds of comments, he should not try that, ‘ ‘ The governor showed his displeasure.
Obiano claimed he used the opportunity of his visit to Abuja to brief and solicit support from some security operatives towards addressing the security challenges in the state.
” We are getting more boots on ground, we’ re getting more equipments and I want to believe that in less than two weeks, all these things will be over for good.
” We will overwhelm and conquer these invaders that came from states nearby to harass our people.
” Let me stop at saying that they are from neighbouring states, ‘ ‘ NAN quoted the Anambra State governor.
